Suntory Yamazaki Pure Aged Spirit Malt Whisky Tarudashi Genshu

Although Suntory Pure Malt Whisky Tarudashi Genshu is marketed as a “pure malt,” it is actually a single malt from Yamazaki. Since the neck label dates back to 1993, we assume that the distillation took place in the same year. We purchased this whisky straight from the Yamamazaki distillery. “Straight from the cask” is a reasonable translation for the name Tarudashi Genshu.

Shinjiro Torii founded Suntory Yamazaki Pure Aged Spirit Malt Whisky Tarudashi Genshu, which was first opened in 1923 and is located close to Osaka. The exceptional water supply in the area is the reason the location was selected. This appears to have paid off, as the Yamazaki distillery’s single malt whiskies currently hold the most market share among all Japanese single malt whiskies. Many people believe that the 18-year-old Yamazaki Single Malt is the best whisky in the world. From 2008 to 2013, it earned six double gold awards at the San Francisco Spirits Competitions.
