Suntory Whisky Hibiki 17 Years Old Museum Of Art

To commemorate the Suntory Art Museum’s grand opening, this specific 17-year-old Hibiki was issued in 1961. Like everything else bearing the name Hibiki, this is extremely uncommon and of the highest caliber.

Among the priciest whiskies out there. Well-aged malt whiskey from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries is blended with old stocks from Suntory’s grain distillery, Chita.

Nose: Sweet, aromatic friut, rich toffee, honeycomb, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, frangipane, and peach melba.

Palate: Rich and dense, with notes of chocolate, marzipan, rum & raisins, mocha, mint (maybe after eights? ), gingerbread, black honey, and treacle sour.

The ideal finishing touches include vanilla custard, black cherries, creme brulee, treacle sponge, coffee, toffee, and French toast.

I should also mention how luxurious the mouthfeel and finish are on this one; it has a lovely balance of fruit, spice, oak, sweet, and aromatics. Given that this is on my selection of the greatest Suntory Whisky Hibiki 17 Years Old Museum of Art in the world, it is evident that the term “blend” is not derogatory when referring to whisky.

The 2018 World Whiskies Awards named this the Best Japanese Blended 13 to 20 Years.
